How to make their first Mother’s Day their best!

How to make their first Mother’s Day their best!

My first mothers day was a day filled with so much emotion, love and pride. I found myself feeling like I was having an out of body experience. I had been trying to become a mother for 5, long and stressful, years and here I was absolutely living the dream.

It can be hard to have inspiration for meaningful moments and gifts, from a young child to their Mother, when they cannot independently choose items or complete tasks. My daughter was less than a year old, on my first mothers day, because of this she definitely needed help in the gift giving and memory making department. My husband, my sister, my mother and my daughters school stepped it up in and amazing way! The moments and gifts I received were more special than anything I could describe adequately in words. Moments and memories made this day the most special ever! Here are are some inspirational ideas base on my first mothers day:

Finger Print Vase:

At my daughters school they decorated mason jars with polka dots made from their finger prints. It is a simple, adorable, vase that I cannot wait to bring out every single mothers day as a centerpiece. Kits are an easy way for the less crafty of us to help get the inspiration flowing.

Memories that will last a life time:

As a mom we tend to be on the other side of the camera lens and are often absent in family pictures. On mothers day take time to snap a few both posed and candid pictures. If you want to go the extra mile try making a craft together that can be saved and displayed for ever! Some inspiration linked below:

Breakfast from helpers:

Teaching our children how to be happy, successful and healthy adults who can manage everyday life is a goal of loving mothers. Show the moms in your life how great they are at prepping their littles! You can do this by involving your children with daily tasks. This can be tricky with little ones but my toddler was able to hand me my plate at brunch and wiped her own tray down and it was the sweetest moment! One way to do this is have your children take part in the planning, preparation, delivery and clean up of food on mothers day. Showing the mom in your life that not only are they loved and appreciated with a break from any household work but also what an incredible job she is doing raising amazing humans who will thrive outside of the home.

Laughter and smiles (with pictures):

When moms have relaxed authentic moments of laughter and smiles with children it fills their cup and has it over flowing! If you know of a moment or activity, that the mom in your life loves, along with their children… try to set it up! We love outside time in our house. For mothers day we had outside time with our toddlers outdoor play yard and some of her favorite toys and music. Our toddler recently learned to dance and it was the sweetest to see her grooving to the music on the perfect sunny may day. The second part is a reminder to snap pictures of the mom and their kids. These moments us moms want to remember for ever.

Gardening:

Not all moms enjoy gardening but this mom loves it! Waiting until mothers day is a guideline we live by in this house for when to start a garden. This is usually a safe bet that there will not be any more frosts. Teaching my toddler to garden is something I have been looking forward to for years before even knowing her name! My husband was aware and made this a priority for mothers day. It was the gift that kept on giving all summer. See my post gardening with a toddler.

Time to relax in whatever way they want:

No two moms need exactly the same day nor should we. However, every mom could use a little more relaxation time and mothers day is a great reason to provide it. A small moment of down time to read, sit in tranquil silence, take a bubble bath or better yet all of the above. GUILT FREE. This is a big part of the relaxation being authentic. If I feel like it is causing stress for my family I cannot enjoy time to myself. I have a foot massager (linked below) that my mother gave me I choose to relax and enjoy when I have a small moment of down time.  10/10 recommend! Thanks Mom!
